Frequently Asked Questions
What does ESA stand for?
The Greek letters of EΣA International stand for Education, Service, and Association.
Education: EΣA provides educational materials, seminars, and training
opportunities to help members develop skills to enhance self-esteem and to
make significant personal accomplishments. Members of EΣA have the
opportunity to become Certified Volunteers of America.
Service: EΣA supports one main international project, St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital. Each state and local chapter may also fundraise for
additional charities—the sum of their efforts results in more than $10 million
per year. EΣA also supports hands-on service that provides personal service to
those in need on an individual and chapter basis. EΣA programs include Hats
for Hope, Warm Welcome, and the ABCs of EΣA. The projects assist the
homeless, at-risk infants, and those with illiteracy, respectively. EΣA’s Care
Connection directly supports members who need assistance for
themselves or family members. Service and support are provided on a
personal member-to-member basis using EΣA’s internationally connected
network.
Association: Within an atmosphere of mutual support and companionship,
membership in EΣA provides a variety of fun, educational, and exciting social
opportunities. Parties, conventions, travel, and cultural outings extend the
EΣA friendship circle. EΣA embraces people of all ages and backgrounds
and encourages them to enjoy an active role in programs, and projects, and have
fun.
